“Upon the subject of education … I can only say that I view it as the most important subject which we as a people may be engaged in.” Abraham Lincoln
My Philosophy of Education
I believe that life is all about gaining knowledge and sharing we have learned with others. I feel that education is a lifelong process and the building blocks of learning are developed in the early stages of life. Elementary school is one of the first places that the building blocks are established for children. Elementary Education should provide the academic, social, and emotional basics to students. Students need to feel comfortable with the school environment they are in and cared for by their teachers. I feel that students should have an organized clean, safe environment to meet in and received a solid education.
I feel that students deserve the very best education that can be provided to them. Students should have a quality teacher that has received training from an accredited higher education institution. An education should be one in which the educators create class lessons that utilize the state standards. I believe that a good quality education comes from teachers who strive to prepare lessons that meet the needs of their individual students. I believe that educators have one of the most important jobs that exist. An educator should be a leader, coach, counselor, and role model to their students.
The teacher can be more of a mentor and director of the students than the main focus. Educators should instill an enthusiasm for life and learning. Education is when teachers and students work as a team towards similar goals. An excellent teacher should evaluate their lessons after they have been implemented and see what worked or didn’t work. They should make improvements where they are needed.
Students need to be given a variety of teaching methods in the classroom. It is important for education to reach students of all abilities and intelligence. Teachers should give students opportunities to share their thoughts and ideas. When a student receives an education, it should prepare them for the future.
In conclusion, I would like to include this thought as part of my philosophy. This is my favorite quote on education from Harry K. Wong. He says, ” The single greatest achievement is not race, it is not poverty- it is the effectiveness of the teacher.”
